FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[Maryvale, February 12, 2025] – Maryvale School District is proud to announce an exciting new
partnership with the National Education Equity Lab, a leading nonprofit dedicated to
expanding college access for high school students nationwide. This collaboration will provide
Maryvale students with the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses taught by
faculty from some of the nation’s most prestigious universities, earning widely transferable
college credits before graduation.
Through this partnership, Maryvale joins a select group of high schools across the nation
working with elite institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Penn, and Howard
University. The initiative is designed to empower students of all backgrounds—beyond
traditional honors students—by equipping them with the skills, confidence, and credentials
necessary to succeed in higher education and beyond.
“Maryvale has always been committed to providing diverse pathways for our students’
futures,” said Joseph R. D’Angelo, Superintendent at Maryvale School District. “This
partnership with the National Education Equity Lab allows us to build on that commitment,
ensuring that more students—regardless of their circumstances—can access high-quality,
college-level learning experiences. These courses are designed by top universities, taught in
collaboration with our dedicated Maryvale teachers, and offer students a world-class
education. Students can earn widely transferable college credits from elite institutions for just
$250 per three-credit course—a fraction of traditional college tuition costs.”
Unlike traditional Advanced Placement or dual-enrollment programs, the Education Equity Lab
model integrates high school teachers as co-instructors, working alongside college
professors and university teaching assistants. This approach supports student engagement,
mentoring, and success. Nationwide, students in this program have demonstrated higher
college persistence rates than peers who have taken AP or other dual-enrollment courses.
Maryvale will begin this partnership with a pilot course in the 2025-2026 school year, applying
to offer Wharton School of Business’s “Essentials of Personal Finance” course. Plans are
already in place to expand course offerings in subsequent years, further strengthening
Maryvale’s commitment to educational equity and opportunity.
