Starting Monday, February 27 middle school students will only be permitted to use District issued Chromebooks during class time. In other words, students will not be able to use their personal devices during class time.
As we continue to expand our use of technology in our classrooms and prepare to meet new computer-based testing requirements for the NYS 3-8 Assessments, we also must update our security measures to protect our students.
Such security measures includes upgrading control and security software that help prevent students from accessing various sites and apps during testing conditions. We can also better control the content and activities that students are engaging in while using their District Chromebooks in school. Additionally, we intend to help improve how students use their non-instructional time throughout the day by limiting screen time to educational activities.
While this change likely impacts a relatively small number of students, it is important for any student that has not been issued a District Chromebook to come to the Middle School Office this week to get one.
